Taking Over, One At A Time

By the time I settled in, it became very clear that I was not just visiting. I was taking over.

The house adjusted quickly. I made sure of it.

Now, let’s talk about Grandma.

At first, she wasn’t sure about me. She didn’t want a dog when I arrived. She definitely didn’t want to touch me. And that was fine — I noticed these things. I’m very observant.

So I adjusted my strategy.

I didn’t force myself on her. I didn’t beg. I simply existed — quietly, cutely, right where she could see me. I watched and waited.

I knew my way around.

Grandma never touched me, but she made sure I was fed. She made sure I was taken care of. She watched over me in her own way, and I understood that love doesn’t always look the same.

Eventually, I won her heart.

(Obviously.)

I remained what I had always been: a princess. And also, apparently, a model. Everyone wanted my picture. Phones came out constantly — especially when Ria and Aaryan’s friends were around. I posed….

Sometimes I looked sassy. Mostly grumpy. Sometimes like I was doing everyone a favor. I knew my angles and when to look away dramatically. I knew exactly when to stare straight into the camera like I was daring it to do better.

And now it was time to take over hearts, phone galleries, and conversations.

This was just the beginning….
